Leadership skill is one of the important parts for a functional framework of any foundation. In this study, report has involved six dimensions of the leadership characteristics. Ideal leadership characteristics influence several attributes like motivation, guidance, confidence, co-ordination, maintenance of the proper environment in the workplace. Here in these study leadership characteristics like behaviors, traits, skills, knowledge, attitudes and different styles have been discussed to get an idea on the importance of the effective leadership for a group and its members. Consequential effects of implementation of these components have also been included here. Self-estimation of the strength and weakness is also incorporated in this study. Moreover, this report has embedded impact of the culture on the leadership style. To make the report more strong comparative study has been done contrasti ng between the analytical findings. The important inclusion of this report is that here evaluative plan has been put so that development can be occurred on the leadership skills. This part has provided scope for the personal development of the characteristics. Moreover, few strategies have been included in this report along with success indicators. This report has encompassed all the approaches required to understand actual planning for the development of the leadership skill. Part A: Specific attributes of the leadership characteristics: With the help of trait leadership theory, 6 distinct characteristics of successful leaders can be found. All these characteristics are discussed below: Behavioral drives: It has been found that all successful leaders have 5 common behavioral drives (Hill et al., 2012). They are such inspiring and motivating others, driving for results, trusting followers, collaboration and supporting followers. Leaders like Nelson Mandela who inspired and motivated other have a high level of energy and enthusiasm. As Vigoda-Gadot and Beeri (2012) stated that leaders like Steve Jobs always drive for results. They always try to develop a high standard for the work groups. They always push their followers to develop new skills and abilities (Yukl, 2012). Successful leaders always trust fellow members. According to Shao Feng and Liu (2012), leaders can engender trust by increasing awareness about circumstances, aspirations, and concerns of others. Leadership traits: Leithwood and Sun (2012) investigated about leadership and found various leadership traits. These traits are such as 1) demographic vs. interpersonal vs. task competence 2) distal vs. proximal. Both these categories are described below: According to Leithwood and Sun (2012), traits of most of the leaders have three categories. They are such as demographic, task competence and interpersonal attributes. It has been found that female leaders and male leaders are equally effective (Joo, Jun Yoon Jeung, 2012). From the distal vs. proximal trait it has been found that the characteristics that distinguish effective leaders from ineffective one are stable throughout the life span. Garca-Morales Jimnez-Barrionuevo and Gutirrez-Gutirrez (2012) had found that distal individual differences like creativity, self-confidence, honesty, energy and motivation are correlated with the effectiveness of leaders. Communication skills: Great leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, and Steve Jobs have some common leadership skills that are effective communication. They are such as motivating others, honesty, effectively solving problems, powerful communication skills (Garca-Morales, Jimnez-Barrionuevo Gutirrez-Gutirrez, 2012). Great leaders always try to make an effective relationship with the help of strong communication skills. There are different techniques used to develop effective communication. They are such as team meeting, Skype calls, blog posts and one-on-one conversations. As Shao Feng and Liu (2012) stated that, most of the leaders started their business with some specific skills. However, leaders like Tim Cook have developed technical skills and professional skills over time to become valuable experts in their specific skills. Attitudes of leaders: It has been found that the attitude of leaders must need to be supportive in nature. They have to increase their self-awareness by meditating daily. It helps them to increase their self-awareness. It also helps to increase the self-confidence level of leaders. Knowledge of leaders: As Vigoda-Gadot and Beeri (2012) stated that gaining knowledge, consists of four elements. The first thing about gaining knowledge is self-knowledge. It helps leaders to be aware of their own strength and weaknesses. Then leaders also need to gain knowledge about the followers. It helps them to develop a better relationship with them (Yukl, 2012). They also have to gain knowledge about leadership and the industry. Leaders like Steve Jobs go through various books, blogs to gather relevant information about leadership. Leadership style: It has been found that there mainly 5 types of leaderships are used by successful leaders. They are such as Laissez-Faire, Autocratic, participative, transactional and transformational. Laissez-Faire lacks direct supervision of followers. It is effective in the case of highly trained and efficient employees (Vigoda-Gadot Beeri, 2012). On the other hand, autocratic leadership style allows a leader to take decisions without consulting with followers. Countries like North Korea and Cuba operates under this leadership approach. Participative leadership style is often known as a democratic leadership style. It helps to improve the morale of employees as it seeks participation from them and asks for their advice (Garca-Morales, Jimnez-Barrionuevo Gutirrez-Gutirrez, 2012). Evaluating the strengths and weakness of own leadership As Shao Feng and Liu (2012) stated that successful leaders always measure their strengths to influence other and try to increase efforts in order to minimize their weaknesses that distort their ability to lead. Hence, in order to measure my personal strength and weaknesses as a leader, self-insight exercises such as personal SWOT analysis has been undertaken. It helps to tap into my skills and leadership styles in a systematic approach. It also helps to find out my weaknesses as a leader, which I need to work on in order to become a decorative leader. Analyzing strength of personal leadership I have analyzed some of the strengths of my personal leadership styles depending on the 6 leadership characteristics mentioned above. They are such as influencing, supportive, seeking followers advice and result oriented. I have found that my leadership style is a combination of the autocratic and democratic (transformational) leadership style. I always try to adopt changes in my leadership style in accordance with the demand of the situation. All my leadership strengths are discussed below: Leadership traits (Influencing) I consider my leadership traits as influencing types and it is people-oriented leader. I personally think that we can achieve any target by hard work, dedication, and sacrifice. I like to motivate others to do hard work. I think I have developed this ability by learning about some great influencing leaders like Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi, Steve Jobs and King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, the late king of Saudi Arabia. Communication skills (Supportive) While working with my team member, I always try to remain supportive. I always try to develop effective communication system within the team so that a task can be completed efficiently. There are various strategies that I have adopted to improve the communication system. They are such as motivating others, honesty, effectively solving problems, powerful communication skills, building relationships, displaying strategic perspective and professional expertise. I use different techniques like team meeting, Skype calls, blog posts and one-on-one conversations to make communication with my subordinates. As Leithwood and Sun (2012) mentioned that supporters have the ability to hold their team together. Like good leaders, I always try to support my team in any condition. In some conditions, they lose their temper and start accusing one another. At that time, it is my responsibility to keep my head cool and keep the team spirit high. After becoming the Sixth King of Saudi Arabia, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz sought to fight against poverty, literacy, and unemployment problem. Due to some cultural barriers and other obstacles, I also have some communication problems. It has hampered my effectiveness as a leader. Often I am not able to influence my team member that disorganizes the team spirit. I am often not able to take care of the welfare of my followers, and I expect that my team members to work at the same pace, which is not a feasible plan. For this reason, I think it is necessary to improve my leadership skills depending on the 6 characteristics mentioned above. I have the opportunity to overcome all these weakness with the help of personal development plan (PDP). Opportunities for personal development With the help of personal development plan, I will be able to analyze all my weaknesses of leadership styles in accordance to the 6 characteristics mentioned above. For example, I do not have effective communication skill. Often I am not capable of understanding the state of mind of my followers. I often expect them to work at the same pace. Depending on the weaknesses, I can develop valid strategies to overcome all these barriers. For instance, I can attain courses to improve my communication skills. I can read the autobiography of some great leaders like Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi to understand their attitude and behavior towards their followers. Secondly, my own culture has negative impact on my behaviour as well. In order to improve it, I can attain short seminar to understand the major changes that occur in the leadership style in recent years. This type of seminars will help me to analyze the traditional approaches of leadership and the present approach of leadership. After that depending on my own judgment, I will take decisions which will be more efficient that my previous decisions. 3. Attending long courses (to improve communication skills) I will like to attain courses to improve my communication skills. I have some cultural barriers that will decrease the efficiency of team performance. I will try to gather knowledge about how to develop a centralized information sharing system within the team. I will develop a centralized communication system within the team so that every team member can gain access to all important and relevant information. It will help to improve overall team performance. 4. Seeking new job opportunities to increase experience about leadership (gather more experience about how other leaders influence and get influenced by followers) As I have not adequate knowledge a team leader, I can look for better job opportunities, where I may get the role of team leader, and I can handle a culturally diversified team. I will handle all their issues and conflicts for carefully. The Catcher in the Rye Themes, Symbols, and Literary Devices

'The Catcher in the Rye' Themes, Symbols, and Literary Devices J.D. Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye is a classic coming-of-age story. Narrated by sixteen-year-old Holden Caulfield, the novel paints a portrait of a struggling teenage boy as he attempts to hide his emotional pain behind cynicism and false worldliness. Through the use of symbolism, slang, and an unreliable narrator, Salinger explores themes of innocence vs. phoniness, alienation, and death. Innocence vs. Phoniness If you had to choose one word to represent The Catcher in the Rye, it would be phony, Holden Caufield’s insult of choice and a word he uses to describe most of the people he meets and much of the world he encounters. For Holden, the word implies artifice, a lack of authenticity- pretension. He views phoniness as a sign of growing up, as if adulthood were a disease and phoniness its most obvious symptom. He has moments of faith in younger people, but invariably condemns all the adults as phonies. The flip side of this is the value Holden puts on innocence, on being unspoiled. Innocence is typically assigned to children, and Holden is no exception, regarding his younger siblings as worthy of his affection and respect. His younger sister Phoebe is his ideal- she is intelligent and perceptive, talented and willful, but innocent of the terrible knowledge that Holden himself has gained with his extra six years (most notably concerning sex, which Holden wishes to protect Phoebe from). Holden’s dead brother, Allie, haunts him precisely because Allie will always be this innocent, being deceased. Part of Holden’s torment is his own phoniness. While he does not consciously indict himself, he engages in many phony behaviors that he would abhor if he were to observe them in himself. Ironically, this prevents him from being innocent himself, which explains to some degree Holden’s self-loathing and mental instability. Alienation Holden is isolated and alienated throughout the entire novel. There are hints that he is telling his story from a hospital where he is recovering from his breakdown, and throughout the story his adventures are consistently focused on making some sort of human connection. Holden self-sabotages constantly. He feels lonely and isolated at school, but one of the first things he tells us is that he’s not going to the football game everyone else is attending. He makes arrangements to see people, and then insults them and drives them away. Holden uses alienation to protect himself from mockery and rejection, but his loneliness drives him to keep trying to connect. As a result, Holden’s sense of confusion and alarm grows because he has no true anchor to the world around him. Since the reader is tied to Holden’s point-of-view, that terrifying sense of being completely cut off from everything, of everything in the world not making sense, becomes a visceral part of reading the book. Death Death is the thread that runs through the story. For Holden, death is abstract; he’s not primarily afraid of the physical facts of the end of life, because at 16 he can’t truly understand it. What Holden fears about death is the change that it brings. Holden continuously wishes for things to remain unchanged, and to be able to go back to better times- a time when Allie was alive. For Holden, Allie’s death was a shocking, unwanted change in his life, and he is terrified of more change- more death- especially when it comes to Phoebe. Symbols The Catcher in the Rye. There’s a reason this is the title of the book. The song Holden hears contains the lyric if a body meet a body, coming through the rye that Holden mishears as if a body catch a body. He later tells Phoebe that this is what he wishes to be in life, someone who catches the innocent if they slip and fall. The ultimate irony is that the song is about two people meeting for a sexual encounter, and Holden himself is too innocent to understand that. The Red Hunting Hat. Holden wears a hunting cap that he frankly admits is kind of ridiculous. For Holden it is a sign of his otherness and his uniqueness- his isolation from others. Notably, he removes the hat whenever he is meeting someone he wants to connect with; Holden knows full well the hat is part of his protective coloring. The Carousel. The carousel is the moment in the story when Holden lets go of his sadness and decides he will stop running and grow up. Watching Phoebe ride it, he is happy for the first time in the book, and part of his happiness is imagining Phoebe grabbing for the gold ring- a risky maneuver that could get a kid a prize. Holden’s admission that sometimes you have to let kids take risks like that is his surrender to the inevitability of becoming an adult- and leaving childhood behind. Literary Devices Unreliable Narrator. Holden tells you he is the most terrific liar you ever saw. Holden lies constantly throughout the story, making up identities and masking the fact that he’s been kicked out of school. As a result, the reader can’t necessarily trust Holden’s descriptions. Are the people he calls phonies really bad, or is it just how Holden wants you to see them? Slang. The story’s slang and teenage vernacular are out of date today, but the tone and style were remarkable when it was published for the way Salinger captured the way a teenager sees and thinks about things. The result is a novel that still feels authentic and confessional despite the passage of time. Holden’s style of telling the story also underscores his character- he uses profanities and slang words very self-consciously to shock and to demonstrate his jaded and worldly ways. Salinger also employs the use of filler phrases in Holden’s story, which gives the narrative the feeling of being spoken, as if Holden were actually telling you this story in person.

Reasons for Divorce in the UAE Abstract The aim behind conducting this research is to shed light on some of the major reasons of the divorce phenomenon in UAE, which is drastically soaring in rate. This writing attempts to explore ideas about the factors of divorce and its catalysts in the society. This research also provides a detailed description of such factors and presents the most common reasons that led to the emergence of the factors behind divorce. In general, this writing logically outlines the reasons that led to divorce. This research is still in progress; thus, this paper only serves as a blueprint to a final draft, which shall cover the issue in a more comprehensive approach and provide broader detail about the phenomena. Since time constraint delimits the researcher to obtain more information about the issue, only a partial coverage of the phenomenon is tackled in this research paper. The major issues tackled in the succeeding text as contributory to the escalating rate of divorce in the Emirates include early marriage, financial issues, culture/tradition, polygamy, and adultery. All of these reasons suggest poor marriage foundation which maybe due to a lack of understanding about the reality of married life and a lack of regard for the value of marriage. At the end of this research, an accurate picture of the social issue shall be presented in the conclusion. Introduction Since the primitive ages of mankind, couples have chosen to be either together or separated. Divorce is a legitimate separation process imposed by religion; however, sophistication of the human beings by means of different religious beliefs, education and experiences in life could not put an end to the obstacle of divorce. Furthermore, the common reasons of divorce are shared worldwide and have general characteristics. Whether the reasons rely on both/ or either of the spouses, divorce is a substance of causes and effects-chains that should be seriously taken into consideration. Unlike worldwide countries, the divorce rate in the U.A.E. is increasing for many different scenarios. In this paper, the major reasons of why married couples resort to breaking the bonds of marriage thru a divorce will be discussed in further detail. Additionally, this paper shall comprehensively tackle how such scenarios have contributed to the alarming rise of divorce rate in UAE. At the end of this resear ch, we shall be able to acquire a good picture of how serious is this social issue, and suggest ways on how the society and the government can effectively address this. As a country known to the world to uphold high morals and regard the sanctity of marriage with high valuation, it is but essential that social authorities look into this social issue and initiate actions to control the rising rate. The escalating rate of divorce in the country has been attributed to early marriage, financial issues, culture/tradition, polygamy, and adultery. Body of the Essay Early Marriage Early marriage is one of the main causes of divorce. According to one study, 13.5% of divorced women and 23.7% of divorced men married early (Nazzal, 2001). At the beginning, according to Jamal Al Bah, director of the Marriage Fund in the U.A.E, many marriage cases end up in divorce because couples lack experience regarding the problems they face when they start their new lives. For example, some couples think that marriage is as smooth as the previous life they used to live with their families where there were neither responsibilities nor obligations to assume. Nevertheless, marriage is an infinite chain of new and different duties that each and every new married couple should take into consideration before they step into it. Furthermore, because some couples do not have mature experience about marital life and spousal obligations, they will not be able to react properly or take proper decisions for different obstacles they face (Gessner, 2000). Dr. Fatma Sayegh, a professor at the UAE University in Al Ain who is specializing in womens issues, have the same stand. According to her, young people get into marriage without an understanding of its significance. This is the reason why these relationships dont last, especially when faced with the challenges of married life. Moreover, problems that face early marriages may be aggravated by the fact that the couple had not had much time to know each other well before getting married; thus compatibility issues arise which may result into misunderstandings between the couple thats difficult to resolve (Chilton, 2009). Second, many families force their daughters to marry men who are of an age that is very different to their own. For example, girls who are in their late teens or early twenties, get married to men who are in their forties or even older that causes a clash of thinking and other forms of problems. In other words, these girls are not mature enough to cope with the new difficulties of the spousal life. In shor t, girls in such situations are always victims of their families inappropriate choice to the right partner for them (Gessner, 2000). Apart from that compatibility problems may also arise primarily due to age gap and differences in interests, attitudes, beliefs, and values. Financial Problems Financial problems are another main cause for divorce. Firstly, it is widely known what precedes a marriage; its all about the expenditures made by grooms, which may lead to huge financial difficulties that would shortly threaten a couples life (Chilton, 2009). For instance, in order for the grooms to please their brides and make them enjoy their wedding day, they have to do many things. Furthermore, some grooms spend more than they can afford by taking huge loans from banks. Moreover, other families may ask for a dowry which is known in most cases among U.A.E nationals as a huge amount that a groom is required to pay for his bride. Although these expenses make newly-wed couples happy on their wedding day, they might contribute later on to ruining their life that has not started yet, a life in debt. Secondly, the rent sky rocketing constitutes a new factor that causes divorce. For example, according to Jasem Mekki, head of the Family Guidance Committee, studies revealed that the spou se couldnt afford the appropriate accommodation for his wife as the rents are soaring, and he added, â€Å"The problem affected the newly married couples more†. With such calamity, one wonders why the government has not so far taken the appropriate measures to curb the spread of the rent hikes within the country, knowing that the latter provokes serious social problems in the U.A.E community (Nazzal, 2009). Thirdly, an unsatisfactory salary tears some couples marital life. As a part of Mekkis work, â€Å"The income of young people does not give them the chance to get a house and start a family†. Recently, this becomes obvious with the increasing cost of living (Nazzal, 2009). Polygamy The diagram below shows the result of a study by the UAE Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs on the most important reasons of divorce among Emirati couples. From the data, it can be inferred that it is often the man who initiates the divorce, and the most prevalent reason for this is polygamy or the desire to marry another woman (Hammad, 2003). Reasons of Divorce among UAE Couples In addition to the early marriage and the financial problems, polygamy is considered as a crucial motive for divorce. First of all, the inability of women to have children could be considered as a primary reason for polygamy. According to an article published in Islam Online in year 2006, twenty-three percent (23%) of women are deprived of having children. Although these women inability to have children is beyond their will (or in other words, it is their fate), their husbands blame it on them and take advantage of the situation to seek another partner who will be able to give them what the first one had deprived them of. Second, some women become victims of age as they grow older, so men tend to use that as an excuse to find another younger wife. Based on the same survey in the article mentioned above, thirty-one percent (31%) of divorces is due to the mans desire to marry another woman. Third, family duties negligence is a factor that leads to divorce as well. This, including overi ndulgence to alcohol, accounts for thirteen (13%) of responses for divorce reasons. In other words, a man might fail to fulfill his duties as a husband or a father by staying out late, missing family functions, or not being there for his wife or kids needs. This means the wife has to compensate and carries out the fathers responsibilities as well. This increase in responsibility overburdens her and eventually makes her unwillingly neglecting her duties as a wife. In many cases this is an adequate reason for the man to go and marry again. Thus, such study concluded that in most cases, it is the man that most likely initiates the divorce (Hammad, 2003). Cultural/Traditional Habits Cultural/Traditional habits are another major cause of elevated divorce rates in the UAE. First, fixed marriages might have influenced the rate of divorced nationals. For instance, many couples go into marriage just to fulfill their families desires, and they get failed expectations or unmet needs (Gessner, 2000). Second, Middle Eastern male sexism and women liberation are a huge factor in the chain of divorce. Women fight to be financially independent clashed with men rejection of allowing their wives working in an atmosphere that will put them in contact with other men. This is because men prefer them to stay home to look after their children. Women see that as a sexist act that is discriminating against them and violating their right of equalization. Dr. Hassan Ismael Obaid, social advisor to the UAE marriage fund stated that the changing attitudes of many national women had also played a big role in the rising divorce rates. They were resisting the social structures that rendered them faceless and voiceless, and bound them socially and financially to male relative (Gessner, 2000). Third, sometimes family interference is another factor that leads couples to divorce. A recent study on divorce conducted by the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs stressed in many cases couples were divorced after they chose to share accommodation with their families. According to this study, thirty-four percent (34%) of divorced women have lived with their spouses families and around eight percent of divorced men have lived with their wives families (Nazzal, 2001). Such a setup contributes to making the situation between the young spouses worse. For instance, some couples who get married might have small misunderstandings between each other, and because they are sharing their accommodation usually with either family, they get to seek advice by involving them in every misunderstanding they face whether shallow or serious. Such interference could sometimes make matters worse bet ween the spouses instead of simplifying them. Ultimately, this can automatically cause divorce for a couple. Adultery Last but not least, adultery is one of the worst ways of causing divorce. This happens when one of the spouses in a marriage has an affair and been unfaithful to the other. In the beginning, â€Å"Islam views adultery as a violation of a marital contract and one of the major sins†; yet in this day and age, many of married Moslems are in lack of the religious factor, which comes between them and between committing the act of infidelity (Adultery). Second, there is the blind negative imitation of foreigners via exposure to all types of media whether it is TV, magazine and internet. This influences the community to adapt to new behavior patterns of openness that contradicts with the native culture (Gessner, 2000). Moreover, this blind imitation made many members of the society see adultery as a normal thing to do, a conduct that is overlooked, forgivable, and not a taboo as long as it remained an unmentioned little secret. Third, the psychological effect on the behavior and perso nality is a reason among the others. For example, it is said that the way a person is raised as a child plus the way he/she was treated, shapes his/her personality. In addition, how a person interacts with the community is traced back to his/her early stages of development, so some couples face problems with trust and honesty that cause marital difficulties. Yet, instead of working on them, they go on and have affairs on the side to seek attention and satisfaction. â€Å"The way couples are brought up affects their ability to face the reality were raised during childhood, when they were prevented from expressing themselves freely and clearly, is considered one of the reasons for the increasing divorce rate† (Survey reveals 46pc divorce rate in UAE, 2005). The brining up system therefore affects the couples ability to face and deal with the reality later on their lives. Conclusion In conclusion, the divorce rate in the United Arab Emirates is soaring due to diverse reasons. Although, there is no official statistics on how rampant divorce cases are in the country, it is estimated that one in three Emirati couples end up in divorce (UAE steps in to curb rising divorce rate, 2009). Primarily, most cases of divorce are due to improper reason for the decision to get tied up in marriage such as what happens in early marriages and arranged marriages as dictated by culture and tradition. Such marriages have shown to have poor foundation, which is why it is not lasting and thus forcing both parties to culminate the marriage bond thru a divorce. And because of compatibility issues and poor bond, these couples find it difficult to bring the relationship across tides that maybe normally encountered by married couples like financial problems. Other reasons which also account a large percentage of the reasons why couples in UAE end up in divorce are rooted on morality. One author of The Emirates Economist commented that with the currently soaring rate of divorce in UAE, the United States is far from being morally inferior to UAE in such terms (Chilton, 2008). This assertion can be more justified with the fact that polygamy and adultery are among the major reasons why UAE couples end up breaking bonds of marriage. The community structure and culture provides an appropriate environment that fosters the tremendous spread of this phenomenon. A solution might not be easily obtained but, with proper formal and informal education combined and further religious-based awareness thru the use of various media among the new generation, eventually such phenomenon would significantly be reduced. It is suggested that education about marriage be started early on and integrated with formal sex education courses in schools. This is potentially beneficial especially among our youth to create an awareness of the reality of marriage life in their young minds and prepare t hem to make wiser decisions for their future. Such awareness may not only be taught in schools; the vast array of media tools that modern technology has created may be utilized to spread information about the right motivation for marriage. Other than that, the television, audio media, newspapers, and the internet maybe utilized by authorities to promote and reinforce good values and morals about the sanctity of marriage among the Emiratis especially the younger generation. Currently, there is a government drive to curb the rising rate of divorce among Emirate couples and such is directed among the youth. A council was created which will look into new trends and the youths attitudes towards marriage. This nationwide survey will be conducted by the UAE Ministry of Social Affairs (UAE steps in to curb rising divorce rate, 2009). Moreover, government initiatives such as monitoring divorce rates, tax incentives for couples and their children, conduct of mass discussion about the negative effects of divorce thru awareness campaigns, and founding social leagues to save families and settle disputes may also curb the rising rate of divorce (UAE has one of the highest divorce rates in the Middle East, 2009). Apart from these moves, one cause of why UAE couples find it easy to resort to divorce is its cheap cost; thus, the government and authorities might as well consider increasing its cost for the benefit of making Emiratis more responsible in deciding regarding marriage matters. The rising rate of divorce in the UAE society must be a cause of concern for the government and the Emirates society as a whole. Steps to curb its rise must be seriously initiated. After all, marriage is a serious social matter; it is not like chewing gum that one can just simply spit when it loses taste. 1. Is it easy to become enamored with a company when it has enjoyed so much success over the years? What are Wal-Mart’s weaknesses? Becoming enamored with a company should not depend on the amount of success it may or may not have had. I like a company that I can stand behind and support. The question isn’t whether a company is successful or not, it should be how did the company get to the level of success it is at. Wal-Mart’s name has recently been synonymous with controversy. Wal-Mart’s founder was known for his charismatic style, emphasis on customer service, and high esteem for Wal-Mart employees; however it can be argued that none of these exist within the company today. From personal experience, I can attest that there is no longer an emphasis on customer service, and employee morale is low. The company also has a negative corporate image amongst potential customers partially due to the controversy around the treatment of employees and the conditions under which many of their products are manufactured. Because of these factors, it is difficult for me to become enamored over a company who has had as much success as they have had. 2. Does Wal-Mart’s new neighborhood store format run counter to the cost-cutting emphasis that is at least partially responsible for the success of its traditional stores? Explain. Abigail Williams compared to Adolf Hitler and Joseph McCarthy Essay

Arthur Miller’s character from The Crucible, Abigail Williams, was a beautiful girl who had a hold on people’s lives. She lied to protect herself and caused chaos for everyone in the town of Salem because all of the right people believed her. History repeats itself, and what Abigail has caused and done has been done many times. During our existence, Adolf Hitler and Joseph McCarthy repeated the same sort of chaos as Abigail Williams had done. Adolf Hitler was a German dictator who spread a rumor that Jews were the cause of Germany’s problems, had the power to have them killed, and had six million Jews killed. Hitler could have anything done because he sympathized with the people and had the people and the Nazi army on his side. Just like Abigail did when she spread the rumors of witches and had others back her accusations up; â€Å"MARY WARREN: She sees nothin’! ABIGAIL: She sees nothin’! MARY WARREN: Abby, you mustn’t! ABIGAIL AND ALL THE GIRLS: Abby, you mustn’t!† (1209). Abigail also sympathized with the Church, for the Church was aware of witches and if there was an accusation towards a person most of those people who were accused would die. Saying the names of different people who were supposedly witches would cause their death. Joseph McCarthy was a senator who between 1940 & 1950 made a public accusation that, more than two hundred â€Å"card-carrying† communists had infiltrated the United States government, including the author, Arthur Miller. This caused a heightening of paranoia and a hunt for these people. The hunt was notoriously difficult on writers and entertainers who were called communist sympathizers. The writers and entertainers would get their passports taken away, or jailed, but most importantly the well publicized trials of these artists could destroy their careers when tried as a communist sympathizer. Both of these men had influence on people that caused great chaos in others life similar to what Abigail did in her time. Joseph McCarthy made an accusation that started paranoia and accused many people of being a communist sympathizer, like Abigail did when she said the names of â€Å"Sarah Good†, â€Å"Goody Osburn†, â€Å"Bridget Bishop† (1156), and others who were supposedly witches and who she supposedly saw with the devil and got them killed. Adolf Hitler had about six million Jews killed because he thought it would solve Germany’s problems and bring peace. Abigail had the people in town killed because it would be the solution to get out of Salem unharmed. In all three situations they had people agree with what they said and made it a much more believable to more and more people than what a specific person believed. Adolf Hitler, Joseph McCarthy, and Abigail Williams all had something in common; they had the ability to have many people believe things that were not true and have action to execute that individuals plan. Whether it was to have someone executed, put on trial, or have people believe the malarkey that they were speaking, they all had a chaos that started with Abigail and repeated itself in a different way but same concept.

Others have trouble tackling daily task because of the fact that they try to take on too many task at one time, and finally there are some people that just waste their time doing nothing because of pure laziness. Now more than ever time is becoming one of our most valued resources that are wasted because people dont know how to properly manage their time wisely. In every aspect of life people are doing things that really have no value at all. At times, I do find myself doing a lot at once because of the positions I hold on campus. However, using that as an excuse becomes old and tired. Being held accountable for my actions to know that in real-world situations, it will result in probation or termination. Walking through a dorm on a week night you can find several students sitting around playing video games when at the same time they have a paper or assignment due the next day, you can also find employees sitting around the office playing games on their phones or writing e-mails while productive work should be getting done. Time management is a skill that can be learned, and when done so can make life less stressful and productive. The first principle that I learned is that I needed to set goals, which I would have to accomplish by the end of the day. I would see when I had free time, and try to separate my tasks into smaller tasks and fit them into the remaining available time that I had. The first step that I took was to get a piece of paper, and record all of my daily activities for a couple of days. Writing my goals down helps me see that, yes, I have something to complete. To-do lists help me keep track of anything that I need to be doing that particular day. It also helps with prioritizing what needs to get done first. Somethings can be done in morning, some professors might have office hours Thursday mornings at 9 am everyone is different. At the end of the day, itrs not good to waste time of someone who is trying to help your benefit. Setting goals and reminding yourself of them is also important. I never lose sight of whatrs important; keeps my head on straight when thinking and not frantically rushing to do/accomplish/complete everything. Developing skills to effectively manage your time will bring forth improvements to your life on a dramatic scale. I must be accepting to making fundamental changes. You have to learn to prioritize and take things one step at a time. Chances for failure increase when you take on more than you can handle or when you take on too much at one time. Developing time management skills will also help you get to know yourself a little better. This is the first step in proper time management. As people age, it becomes much easier to lose track of important things in your life. It seems insane that we allow this to happen, but sometimes that happens really easily. As a student leader on campus, I want to be held accountable for my actions. A lot of professors and students look to me for guidance on campus. Being terrible with time management will cause them to lose faith and loyalty in me. I would like to say I have worked extremely hard to make a name for myself on campus just for it to be taken from me because of me not being prompt to an event/work. I do not want other student leaders or people in general to not see me as reliable but, resourceful. On time, on-call, whenever I am needed. Proper time management is something that can change your life on a fundamental basis for the better. Time management is an adult skill all college students must master before graduating college. Itrs an important life skill, something that can only teach you by experience. I have learned all of my lessons with time management from losing points on a late assignment to losing a job behind tardiness. With a few minor adjustments in how I utilize my ti me, I can change how I manage my time.
